Despite the VDI Guideline 2083 (Part 8) concerned with methods and procedures for assessing the cleanroom suitability of operating utilities, it is often still unclear what “cleanroom-suitable” actually means. UdoGommel, Fraunhofer IPA remarked: “Cleanroom suitability is often only a general requirement. Without more precise details, such requirements can’t be met”. The new industrial alliance “Cleanroom Suitable Materials” aims to advance the state of knowledge and technology as well as to determine more specifically the characterization and selection of materials for use in clean applications.
